SLAM POEM: FAD DIETS

My tummy is growling,
Turning to and fro,
My chub sits there and complains,
I don’t need to grow.
What should I do?
Have you heard the newest fad?
Diet, that is, it’ll make your bod look rad.
Let’s try the cookie diet
Losing 15 pounds in 30 days,
Then gain all the weight back,
In 100 different ways.
Now let’s try the grapefruit diet,
For breakfast, lunch, and dinner,
And then we can starve ourselves
Watch me be the winner.
5 pounds in one week,
I can easily do it,
All the celebrities are,
God forbid if they quit.
Cant you tell on their ads?
With their hard rock abs?
That could easily be you,
It’s the simplest thing to do.
With the no carb diet,
Cut out all fruits,
Why are you looking at me funny?
Do I look like a bunny?
Just cause fruits have low calories
You will still pay the fees
Since carbohydrates are the wrong keys
For these weight losing strategies.
You WILL lose weight,
And you WILL look great,
Your body will be bangin
No more arms and butts hangin.
So now that your outside,
Is looking better than ever,
lets take a look at your inside as we hit the lever,
side effects are included, you’ll get the gist,
let me name you a few as I read you this list,
nausea, hair loss, and organ malfunction,
dizziness and bad breath, such an exciting conjunction.
The only way youll be cool is if you try a hip diet,
Cause just eating healthy and going to the gym might cause a huge riot.
I am confused, to say the least,
By all this contradiction,
I really wonder what is fact,
And what fact is fiction?
From all of these diets,
And the information I have gathered,
I can only think that eating is just a damn health hazard.
What else can we fall for?
The next ones called the jersey shore diet?
Tanning lotion for breakfast?
Perfect cause you cant fry it.
Then the diet includes: hairspray for lunch
women will conclude,
results show more than one crunch.
Cause if they look like a grenade,
Their social life will fade,
An f for fat will be their grade,
Society will continue believing,
All of the fads that they have made.

IF YOU JUDGE ANOTHER, IT DOES NOT DEFINE THEM...IT DEFINES YOURSELF.

Blonde women with fake lips and boobs are dumb bimbos, black guys are drug dealers and eat fried chicken, Mexicans are janitors, Asians are the smartest, Americans are fat, Jewish people are greedy, dark skinned men with turbans are terrorists…. the list goes on and on.  Unfortunately, this will never stop.  Stereotyping will only get worse, and society will continue to judge one another.  Although there are good stereotypes such as black men are good at basketball, and Asians are smart, people generally feel discriminated against once they are labeled.  Stereotypes seem to ignore the uniqueness of an individual.  Just because a man or a woman dresses, talks, looks, a certain way or does certain things doesn’t mean they HAVE to fall under a specific category.  Everyone is exclusive in his or her own remarkable way, and no one should decide the identity of another.  With this being said, people should be judged by their individuality and NOT based on a group.  If you don’t know a person directly, than how the hell are you going to categorize them?  Negative stereotyping is just another way for people who don’t want to get to know others, so they classify them without any evidence or facts. It’s not fair.  I honestly admit to stereotyping here and there, but there is a valid line between what’s “right” and what’s “wrong”.  People may think its funny or entertaining, but truth is that stereotypes cause a lot of problems in this world. Society is depending more and more on already developed assumptions about certain people, rather than seeing who the person really is and deciding for themselves.  People are prejudice, rude, and extremely judgmental; when more people should be kindhearted and accepting towards one another. Instead of being presented with stereotypes by age, sex, color, class, or religion, children must have the opportunity to learn that within each range, some people are loathsome and some are delightful.” –Margaret Mead.

My Ideas on Critical Thinking

Am I a critical thinker? DEFINITELY. I think before I speak, I question any problems, I am always concerned with everything around me, and I struggle to figure things out. When it comes to thinking critically, I seem to confuse myself with my feelings. Although my thoughts are mostly based on how I feel, I know that my feelings aren’t always necessarily reliable. Some feelings I have can be beneficial (such as my values and morals) and some are completely out of line. Let me give you an example....Its weird because I know that drinking alcohol makes me feel horrible about myself the very next day, yet I still drink sometimes when I go out. Why do I do it? Because in the moment it makes me feel good, I let loose, and I easily converse with people around me…The next day I feel stupid about something I "might have" said, I usually get a throbbing headache, and I tell myself “I’m never drinking again.” The “worst” part about this is that I strongly disagree when someone does something completely out of line and his or her excuse is “But I was wasted.” As I’m writing this, I can honestly call myself a hypocrite. If I know drinking doesn’t benefit me in any way than why do I still do it? I clearly use it as an excuse. Although I use my best judgment for certain situations, I realize that it is not ALWAYS my BEST judgment. I am very passionate about what I think and decide is “right,” but I guess I am human…J

LET'S GOOOOO!

My full name is Karen Shayna Zakay.  My neighbor who passed away gave me my middle name when I was a little girl.  Shayna means "pretty face," and there was never a day that passed where she didn't let me know that I had a pretty face.  My first language is Hebrew.  Both of my parents were born in Israel, and I have a brother who is in the same boat as I am, only he's 2 years older. Oh ya, I'm 20 years old.  Even though I speak fluent English, I wish I had a larger vocabulary. Sometimes I can only think of the word that I'm dying to say in the moment, in Hebrew, when I need to say it in English. It stresses me out. Everything stresses me out. Israelis are extremely loud and crazy, therefore that is who I am.  People are always in and out of my house, the music is always playing, the food is always out on the table, and everyday is a new celebration.  I love to cook. My mom makes the best food ever. I am extremely social. I love to make people laugh. Laughing is so important. I love everyone in my life. I have amazing friends. We go out all the time...clubbing, house parties, chill kickbacks. We will find any reason to get together.   I started off at the age of 2 taking a “Mommy and Me” ballet class and ever since then I have built my passion for dance.  Hip-hop is my ultimate favorite, and nothing is better than being able to share my passion with children. I am obsessed with kids. One day I will have 5 of them and I cannot  wait. I teach dance classes and I babysit all the time. I also tutor.   I have a very outgoing and motivating personality; and you will always catch me smiling. Positive attitude is honestly what I live by. I can't stand negative people. They piss me off.  I care about people around me more than I care about myself.  I've realized that it can be a good thing, or a very bad thing.  I just hate selfish people.  I have a yorkshire terrier that I'm in love with. But he pees on my white bed all the time.  His name is Poochy, and he humps everything and anything around him.  My friend just got a new car so I'm gonna go see it. I hope you got the gist of who I am in some way or another.  Peace out.
